Mike, Did you order your MTD 535 with a high C or did you just restring it when you got it. If you restung it that way yourself, was there anything special you had to do to it? I bought a 535 in March and feel I don't use the low B that often and am considering restringing it. Thanks, Wayne

A few years ago I had a five string Dean bass that came as a low B bass that I strung as a five string with a high C. I used a D'Addaro XL 0.032 as based on this six string set at just strings:

You can buy single strings here:

I had to adjust the truss rod lefty loosey slightly because the C string did not have as much tension as my previous low B sting had. If I would have continued with this setup I would have had a new nut made for the proper string diameters and string heights at the nut.

I liked the high C string for chords and for playing along with background music while watching movies and tv, but for just playing bass I found that I like the five string low B setup better, so I never had the new nut made.

I did order it with a high C. I did have a 5 that I adapted for a high C. In changing to a high C, there are 2 concerns. The first is easy, just a possible truss rod adjustment. The second is a bit more difficult. The bass might need a new nut, depending on the slot. A new nut is not a big deal, it is something that a pro setup guy might need to do
